Completely blind-sided. Completely.

Why take warnings of falling in love with a city seriously?

Possible, when about every corner, up every cobble stone squeeze, and over the tip of your espresso reaches yet another archaic colossus, stretching deep into the azure above it.

Blind-sided. Completely.

But what makes me want to put a ring on it, are the sprinkles of youth amongst the ruins.

The wide eyed record store owner, the capoeiristas swinging limbs and smiles by sunset, the sleeved siblings peddling boards of craft-pork while painting stories of a southern wine.

These are the gladiators. Not elevated but oppressed by the burden of a fallen, free-falling empire; ancient, today, the hope for tomorrow is the fight.

For Rome. For love.
